Watchdog Journalism on a Shoestring
Do you think you can't provide investigative stories because of limited staff, resources and budget? Think again. You can offer your readers in-depth insight into local issues and hot topics on a limited budget. During the annual Sharon Johnson Memorial Workshop, a variety of presenters will discuss how to use data and statistics, how to mine information from the Internet and social media and how to get a good interview. Hear from your peers across Pennsylvania who are doing it, doing it well and making a difference in their communities.
For 30 years, Sharon Johnson connected with the readers of The Patriot-News, Harrisburg, through her arts and entertainment writing. Her witty and informed style made her a must-read in central Pennsylvania. In honor of Sharon's memory, The Patriot-News sponsors this annual workshop through the PNA Foundation with a focus on writing and reporting skills. Through their Pulitzer-Prize-winning efforts for local reporting, The Patriot-News is working with the PNA Foundation to coordinate this workshop,. Together, we recognize that while the tools, resources, formats and products may have changed since Sharon Johnson was writing, a good story is still what readers want.
