States – such as California and New York – have passed or are considering legislation criminalizing “revenge porn.”  PA State Senator Judith Schwank of Berks County has recently indicated she will introduce legislation to close a loophole in Pennsylvania’s law by making it illegal to distribute or post a photo or other recorded images of an identifiable person who is naked or engaged in sexual activity, unless the subject has given authorization to do so.

This is a growing issue and could be affecting your community now.  Learn what “revenge porn” is, how it is currently legislated and not legislated in various states, what is happening to victims and attackers as well as examples of recent legal cases.  Nationally-recognized cyber-law expert Mary Anne Franks will provide valuable information and insight to help you to better understand this subject.  Don’t miss this discussion on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Teleconference is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 noon.  Cost: $10 per phone line for PNA members.  $20 for non-members.  To register, email Kathleen Landis or phone her at 717-703-3012.

Presenter: Mary Anne Franks, Associate Professor of Law, University of Miami School of Law.

This is another in a series of sessions being made available through the PNA Foundation’s Reporters’ Series.  The Reporters’ Series is meant to provide an educational, non-partisan forum for in-depth exploration of important and timely policy issues impacting the Commonwealth. Through these inexpensive and convenient teleconference sessions, you can simply phone in and listen to experts explain the particulars of a policy topic or pending legislation.  Straight facts that will help you better understand and cover an issue and its effect on your community and readers.
