Congratulations to the 2014 Newspaper of the Year contest winners! Please see lists to the right.
The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA) Foundation's Newspaper of the Year Contest gives PNA-member news media companies the opportunity to showcase the efforts of their entire staff. The purpose of this contest is to recognize outstanding work across all departments and including all products, with an emphasis on overall excellence. Categories now include: news excellence, advertising excellence, news presentation, editorial & commentary, best use of photography, diversity, special sections, promotions, community service and best use of video awards.
Entries were submitted online via BetterBNC through Monday, August 25, 2014. View the 2014 contest rules, instructions and categories below.
New in 2014: categories are no longer designated as "mandatory" or "optional". Organizations are not required to submit an entry in every category; however, the chances of winning "Newspaper of the Year" are increased by entering every category.
Entries were judged with an assigned point system by the faculty from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University. All points were added together for each newspaper, and the newspaper with the highest total point scores in the multi-day publication and weekly publication divisions win first and second place "Newspaper of the Year" awards.
Also new in 2014, the newspaper with the top point total in each circulation division will receive a General Excellence Award.
