While Governor Wolf has proposed a budget that may help Pennsylvania’s public schools, some local school districts have concerns about the budget plan.  Fiscal conditions are predicted to get worse before they get better.  Education proponents say change is needed to fix the way our schools are funded.  The Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) and the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) have released results from a wide-reaching survey indicating the challenges facing our communities.

Isn't education one of the most talked-about issues in your community?  The value of good education with needed services, programs, staffing, etc.,  is met with concern for increased tax burdens.  Learn more about this topic from the experts who understand what your local schools are facing as well as the legislators who are recommending changes through the General Assembly’s Basic Education Funding Commission.

Teleconference is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 noon.  Cost: $10 per phone line for PNA members.  $20 for non-members.  To register, email Kathleen Landis or phone her at 717-703-3012.

Presenters include:
Jay Himes, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials
-John Callahan, Senior Director of Government Affairs, Pennsylvania School Boards Association
-Sen. Lloyd Smucker, Senate Education Committee Chairman, R-Lancaster County
-Rep. Mike Sturla, Democratic Policy Committee Chairman, D-Lancaster County

This is another in a series of sessions being made available through the PNA Foundation’s Reporters’ Series.  The Reporters’ Series is meant to provide an educational, non-partisan forum for in-depth exploration of important and timely policy issues impacting the Commonwealth. Through these inexpensive and convenient teleconference sessions, you can simply phone in and listen to experts explain the particulars of a policy topic or pending legislation.  Straight facts that will help you better understand and cover an issue and its effect on your community and readers.
