In 2014, Act 105 was passed to update, modernize, and enhance previous legislation on human trafficking.  We’ll review how the changes have impacted crime, victims and justice and we’ll look at additional initiatives being considered.   Features legal experts and advocates as well as law enforcement representatives.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, “the term ‘human trafficking’ is used in common parlance to describe many forms of exploitation of human beings. While these words often evoke images of undocumented migrants being smuggled across international borders, the term has a different and highly specific meaning under the United States Criminal Code. Human trafficking crimes focus on the act of compelling or coercing a person's labor, services, or commercial sex acts.”

Teleconference is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 noon.  Cost: $10 per phone line for PNA members.  $20 for non-members.  To register, email Kathleen Landis or phone her at 717-703-3012.

Presenters:
--Shea M. Rhodes, Esq., Director, Villanova Law Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation

--Jamie Manirakiza, MSW, Director of Anti Trafficking and Social Services, The Salvation Army, Philadelphia Social Service Ministries

--Jim Carpenter, Chief of the Family Violence & Sexual Assault Unit, Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office
