Philadelphia, PA - AARP Pennsylvania recently announced the appointment of Gregory Tanner, as the interim state director. The appointment came after the retirement of Richard Chevrefils, who served as Pennsylvania state director since 2007.
"We are very excited to have Greg help lead the dynamic volunteers and staff in Pennsylvania during this time of transition. He brings over 20 years of exemplary public service and leadership to this important position," Rawle Andrews, AARP Mideast Regional Vice President, said.
Joining AARP in 2003, Tanner currently serves as the associate state director for community outreach in the AARP North Carolina office.
Tanner is known for his expertise in education and outreach focusing on consumer protection, advocacy, health and diversity issues.
Tanner has also held positions in the public sector serving as a regional long term care ombudsman for various Area Agencies on Aging.
Prior to his career in aging services, Greg was an educator and coach at Durham High School where he taught earth science, biology and chemistry in addition to coaching varsity track and football.
He is an active board member with AT&T North Carolina, the LGBT Center of Raleigh/Triangle Area, and the National Board of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc.
Tanner holds a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina Central University.
