HARRISBURG, Pa. (October 23, 2012) — The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (PNA) is proud to present Sandra C. Hardy with the 2012 PNA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Established in 1998, the award recognizes an individual with a track record of excellence and service to newspapers and journalism.

Hardy is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding work and dedication to the newspaper industry, Calkins Media and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. In his nomination letter, Bill Lynett, PNA Chairman, commended Sandra for her commitment to her community and to the newspaper industry in Pennsylvania. “Sandra knows what it means to be a community newspaper. She and her family have capably and successfully guided Calkins Media through today’s ever-changing media landscape. She has also provided great leadership to the PNA, serving as Chairwoman in 2008-2009, joining the PNA Foundation Board in 2009, and remaining an active participant on the Government Affairs Committee.”

Ralph Martin seconded the nomination, writing that “Sandra understands that Calkins’ newspapers belong to the community. She and her family have demonstrated their commitment to this principle in countless ways over the years, including consistently putting out quality newspapers and online news and supporting their communities through philanthropy and engagement. At the PNA, she participates and contributes at every level. The Association, and the newspaper industry as a whole, have benefitted greatly from Sandra’s efforts and commitment.”

The PNA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented on Nov. 8, 2012, during the PNA Annual Convention held at the Hilton Scranton in Scranton, Pa.
