News media personnel, technology leaders and entrepreneurs gathered at Interstate General Media headquarters in Philadelphia on Tuesday to participate in the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association’s event, “All Hands on Tech.” The event focused on technology, solutions, and the future of the news industry, with guest speakers Robert Cauthorn, architect of digital strategy at Interstate General Media, Solomon Jones, staff writer and columnist for Philadelphia Daily News, RoseAnn Rosenthal, president, CEO of Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Gil Beyda, founder and managing partner of Genacast Ventures.
An entrepreneurial tech fair and cocktail reception followed the speakers, providing attendees networking opportunities with organizations providing innovative products and services to the newspaper industry. Representatives from andCulture, Rumble, tapCLIQ, A View From My Seat and Tuva were available to demonstrate onsite and answer questions.
Attendees gave the event positive reviews, including Teresa Emerson, managing editor of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, who wrote, "It was encouraging for us to be able participate and also glean more ways that we can help our paper with the Internet and where journalism is going.”
The PNA thanks Interstate General Media management and staff for their generous donation of time, resources and space to the event. A video of the event can be viewed here.
The PNA is planning to host a similar event in western Pennsylvania in the Spring of 2014. Anyone interested in speaking, attending, or exhibiting please contact Tricia Greyshock, VP, Association Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
