HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 17, 2015 – Spreading the good news of innovation and technology, the Thrival Innovation + Music Festival in Pittsburgh, Pa. is a week-long event that creates a platform for a wide range of organizations to share how they are improving their respective fields. Thrival invites new and creative ideas from health care companies, game developers, educational companies, news media organizations, nonprofits, and more. The innovation events are free of charge, but most require registration through EventBrite.

This year, the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA) is hosting a panel session titled, “This is Old News: Innovation in Traditional Media,” on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 9:30 a.m.

The panel will include Mike Palm, executive editor at the Herald-Standard (Uniontown); Mila Sanina, assistant managing editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; Jeff Sutton, director of audience targeting at Advance Digital; and Michael Young, senior vice president and Pittsburgh market manager at CBS Radio.  Matt Caylor, PNA’s director of interactive media, will moderate.

With today’s audiences demanding more information than ever before, panelists will discuss how news media companies are responding to the needs of their new and existing customers in gathering and sharing news and information, as well as the evolution and advances of news media companies in the face of new market characteristics and rapidly-changing technology.

Caylor sees Thrival as an exciting opportunity for PNA to share the ways in which news media organizations are thought leaders and innovators in the digital arena. “Participating in festivals like Thrival helps us relate how traditional media companies are growing and adapting, keeping newspapers and broadcasters at the front of the technological media pack.”

Thrival, founded by ThrillMill, Inc., is a Pittsburgh-based initiative uniting entrepreneurs, impact-makers, artists, innovators, creatives, and business and thought leaders for a week of interactive programming, immersive innovation-focused events, and a wide range of live music.
