HARRISBURG, Pa. (July 22, 2016) — The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA) is proud to present the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award to William R. Lynett of Times-Shamrock Communications. Established in 1998, the award recognizes an individual with a strong record of excellence and service to newspapers and journalism.

In his nomination letter, Henry Nyce, publisher of The Republican-Herald (Pottsville), emphasized the significant contributions that Lynett has made to his company, his community and to his family, as well as the passion and commitment he has exemplified “each and every day of his career.”  Lynett became a publisher of The Scranton Times on March 1, 1966, shortly after the death of his father, Edward J. Lynett, who had served as Editor and Publisher of the newspaper for twenty years.  Over the next forty years, Bill, along with his brothers Edward and George, and his sister Cecelia, built their media company, Times-Shamrock Communications, into one of the largest family-owned media companies in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Times-Shamrock Communications, now run by the fourth generation of the family, today consists of 14 print properties and 13 radio stations, located in five different states.

Lynett has also made significant contributions to the PNA, serving with distinction on the PNA and MANSI boards, including as chair, and the PNA Foundation board and executive committee. He was instrumental in the transition of association leadership after the retirement of long-time president Tim Williams, and provided strong guidance and leadership over the boards in a time of great change in the news media industry. Bill currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Radio Advertising Bureau and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Marywood University.  In 2015, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

The PNA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented on Nov. 3, 2016, during the PNA Annual Convention held in Bedford, Pa.

The PNA, founded in 1925, is the nonprofit trade association for print and online news media in Pennsylvania. Its mission is to advance the business interests of Pennsylvania news media organizations and to promote the importance of a free and independent press. It has more than 300 newspaper and media-related members, including daily, weekly and collegiate newspapers and online news publications.
