Former Inquirer columnist is first female to receive J.G. Taylor Spink Award

Former Philly Inquirer sports columnist and editor, Claire Smith, was awarded the J.G. Taylor Spink Award last weekend for her excellence in baseball writing. The award, voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America, goes to a writer (or writers) for meritorious contributions to baseball writing. Smith is the first female and fourth African American winner of the award.
