The America East 2012 Advisory Committee has welcomed three new members: Ralph Bayless, Mel Taylor and Karen Schulz Thomas.
Ralph Bayless, a regional sales manager for Editor & Publisher magazine, has worked in the advertising business for more than 27 years. His background includes working as a media buyer, owning Bayless Advertising in Laguna Niguel, Calif., and working with MOB Media, Hobbs/Herder Advertising and Bayless Sales Innovations.
Mel Taylor is a veteran of Philadelphia Newspaper, Broadcast & Web. In 2006, he founded Mel Taylor Media; a consultancy specializing in helping local media with online revenue and digital strategy. Taylor’s background includes traditional and online media success, including work with Tribune Newspapers, Philly.com, Fox Television, Clear Channel Radio, and various hyper-local publishers. Taylor helps local media maximize their traditional and digital assets to grow overall revenue & audience share.
Karen Schulz Thomas is a procurement manager for Gannett Supply Corporation. She has been in this position since December 2007 and is responsible for the procurement of production equipment and consumables. Thomas started her career with Gannett Co, Inc. in 1989 as a production coordinator for USA TODAY after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. In 1997, she joined the ad operations department of USA TODAY as an ad traffic coordinator and transitioned to a scheduling and layout analyst a year later. In September 2000, Karen became a USA TODAY field operations manager after assisting with the launch of USA TODAY in Las Vegas. In that position, she was a liaison between USA TODAY and USA WEEKEND and their production facilities.
The America East Newspaper Operations and Technology Conference is the leading regional trade show for the newspaper industry organized annually in Hershey by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association.
