Reading Eagle

The Reading Eagle has an opening for an experienced night news editor. This is one of the top positions in our award-winning newsroom.

The Eagle is a family-owned morning newspaper that continues to expand its coverage area. We have won the sweepstakes award for four straight years in our division in the Keystone Press Awards. We have an aggressive investigative team and several writers who have won the statewide distinguished writing award.

The news editor runs the newsroom during the evening and begins the planning process for the next day’s coverage. We value aggressive news coverage and provide opportunities to lead special projects focusing on community issues.

Candidates should have a good understanding of a news operation and community journalism, be able to make quick decisions and handle copy on tight deadlines, know the value of both print and online coverage, and lead and encourage a talented staff of veteran and young reporters.

The former news editor has been promoted to assistant managing editor and will be in charge of our expanding digital news team.

Reading and surrounding Berks County are located in eastern Pennsylvania and offer a high quality of life, affordable housing and countless recreation opportunities. Philadelphia is just an hour away.

We offer competitive pay and benefits. We believe we have one of the best news staffs in the state and are looking to get better. If you believe you fit that mold, send a cover letter, resume, clips and references to Harry J. Deitz Jr., Editor, Reading Eagle, at
