NorthcentralPa.com / NCPA Media is seeking an experienced assistant editor to join our fast-paced digital news team. The assistant editor will work closely with the managing editor and reporting staff to help manage the day-to-day flow of content and news articles for NCPA, which covers news and events in 12 counties in north central Pennsylvania. The assistant editor will also cover and report on events and stories happening in the region as necessary.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the managing editor in planning, assigning, and overseeing news coverage across our regional coverage area
- Edit articles and social media content submitted by reporters and contributors for grammar, spelling, style, and clarity
- Enter and schedule content in our CMS platform, Blox, each day, with appropriate tags, keywords, and social media notifiers
- Coordinate with audience engagement developer to ensure the publication and promotion of content across our website, social media channels, and other digital platforms
- Provide constructive feedback to reporters to help them develop their writing and reporting skills
- Monitor analytics to identify high-performing content and emerging story trends
- Collaborate with the team to generate story ideas and improve overall editorial quality and output
- Provide backup support for the managing editor as needed
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience in a journalism or editorial role, preferably at a digital media outlet
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of grammar and AP style
- Keen news judgment and the ability to identify compelling local stories and angles
- Familiarity with content management systems, social media platforms, and digital publishing tools
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and work under deadlines
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team
