The LNP Media Group, Inc. is searching for a Digital Newsroom Team Leader to manage a digitally focused team of breaking-news, multimedia and enterprise reporters, website producers and a social media manager to meet the news and information needs of Lancaster County residents in real time across all digital platforms. Informed by both digital analytics and strong news judgment, the Digital Newsroom Team Leader makes coverage decisions for an audience that primarily resides in Lancaster County.

The Digital Newsroom Team Leader serves as the editor of a fast-paced team whose mission is to expand LancasterOnline’s digital audience and subscriber base by publishing accurate, comprehensive breaking news across all topics – business, politics, crime, entertainment and sports – before any other media outlet, and by producing creative and newsworthy enterprise journalism using all the multimedia tools at their disposal.

In this role you will be responsible for coaching, creating a learning culture, generating enthusiasm and setting high standards among members of the team and the broader newsroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and facilitate the work of a reporting team dedicated to generating content that is fair, balanced, accurate, compelling, of highest journalistic standards, and makes a positive impact in the communities we serve. 
  • Assign and edit stories; coordinate their presentation with photographers, designers and graphic artists; select and edit wire coverage that resonates with digital audiences and be a conduit for reader feedback and future story ideas.
  • Collaborates with other team leaders in telling stories that are unique and exclusive to LancasterOnline.
  • Works closely with the Managing Editor for Content and team members using expertise and good judgment in selecting the most appropriate content for print and digital products to engage the audiences. 
  • Use metrics/analytics to inform decisions on content assignments and placement across platforms. 
  • Assign and edit copy as well as write web-friendly headlines as needed.
  • Create and/or contribute to content as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, related field or equivalent experience.  
  • 5+ years’ experience in administration and supervision in a newsroom environment preferred. Prior experience in writing and managing the production of features content is preferred. 
  • Proven ability to lead a team. 
  • Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of newsroom-specific editing, photography and wire handling is preferred. 
  • Experience using wire services and publishing systems for all platforms. 
  • Fluency in Web and social media technology as well as advanced knowledge of digital metrics and SEO. 
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a mixed-media team environment, to multitask in a deadline-driven newsroom and to adapt constructively and creatively to change. 
  • A firm grasp of current events particularly as they relate to LNP’s Lancaster County area audience. 
  • A keen interest in and knowledge of LNP competitors. 
  • Thorough familiarity with journalism and libel law.
