PNA Foundation

Capital Crosh Course Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation has made the difficult, but obvious decision to postpone the Capitol Crash Course scheduled for March 22-24, 2020, due to COVID-19.

We have been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local governments. We have also been actively following travel advisories and restrictions being placed on many news media personnel. The health, safety and well-being of our members, staff, participants and other stakeholders is of paramount importance.

We do not yet have the new dates for this event; however, we will provide them as soon as they become available.

Please feel free to email the PNA Foundation or phone (717) 703-3003 with any questions.

An insider’s guide to how Pennsylvania’s state government works…and doesn’t.

The program kicks off on Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2020, at PNA Headquarters.  Students will gather at 5 p.m. for dinner where they’ll meet their mentors, get an overview of Harrisburg politics and prepare for the upcoming days.

On Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24, participants will spend two intensive days at the Capitol visiting with Harrisburg insiders, observing committees at work, catching the House and Senate in session, meeting legislators and talking with lobbyists. All the while, their assigned mentors will be guiding them and working one-on-one with them to produce a final project. Everyone will gather on Tuesday afternoon for a recap and final analysis. The program concludes by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24.

Created especially for journalism students at Pennsylvania colleges and universities who want to learn about reporting on state government. Up to six students will be selected. Must be a junior or senior majoring in journalism or communications.

Completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020.  Applications should be mailed to the PNA Foundation, 3899 N. Front Street, Harrisburg, PA  17110, or emailed to the PNA Foundation.  Notification of acceptance will be sent the week of February 17.

Overnight rooms will be provided for two nights with all meals included.
