SUMMARY:Biosolids End Use Success Stories
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, you will hear from two organizations who have developed innovative partnerships and sustainable programs to beneficially use Class A and B\, nutrient-rich\, biosolids. Class A and B biosolids must meet federal and state requirements for treatment requirements. The use of Class A and B biosolids for agriculture and soil amendments provides economic and environmental benefits\, such as offsetting disposal costs and restoring natural habitats. The speakers will showcase the challenges and opportunities of avoiding the traditional landfill end use option. \nPart I – Bloom: Many Problems\, One Solution \nBloom\, DC Water’s suite of biosolids products\, has a robust and diverse set of customers. James Fotouhi and Blue Drop’s April Thompson will present in brief a variety of use cases for Bloom using real-life examples\, where biosolids saved the day by helping their customers meet challenging specs\, win bids\, and restore the greens.\nSpeakers:  James Fotouhi\, Program Manager\, Resource Recovery\, DC Water \nPart II – Capital Region Water’s Biosolids Journey – Two Decades of Overcoming Challenges to Pursue Beneficial Use \nCapital Region Water (Harrisburg\, PA) has developed and maintained a Class B biosolids beneficial use program since 2007. The program initiated in mine reclamation – to escape rising landfill tipping fees – and has transitioned to a long-term agricultural land application program. Over the course of the program\, the utility has faced a multitude of challenges\, including limited on-site storage\, dewaterability challenges (due\, in part to BNR upgrades in the late 2010’s)\, wet winters\, and farmland ownership changes. Despite challenges along the way\, the utility has found committed farmers – one of which invested in an on-farm storage building – to secure biosolids as a fertilizer when needed. This presentation will provide a history of CRW’s program\, and a look into actions the utility is taking to improve program resiliency in the future. Speakers: Trudy Johnston\, Managing Director\, Material Matters and Jess Rosentel\, Chief Operations Officer\, Capital Region Water \n__________________________________________________________ \nThis complimentary Zoom session is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 noon\, eastern time\, on Wednesday\, Oct. 23. Registrants must have both a computer and audio/phone in order to participate. \nThis informational webinar is presented in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association (MABA). \nA confirmation with log in instructions will be emailed to each registrant a day few days prior to the session. \nIf you are interested but are unable to participate in the live webinar\, please pre-register so that you can conveniently receive the recording and any other session materials. \nRegister Now
