SUMMARY:2025 Student Keystone Media Awards Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Plan to join us at the Student Keystone Media Awards Luncheon as we celebrate and recognize the best of student journalism in Pennsylvania\, by presenting the 2025 Student Keystone Media Awards. \nThis awards luncheon event will be held on Thursday\, April 3\, at WITF’s Public Media Center in Harrisburg\, beginning at 11 a.m. This event includes “ask-me-anything” sessions with professional journalists\, *tours of WITF’s facilities for students\, and a networking lunch\, followed by the awards presentation. \nThe PNA Foundation covers the cost of the event for all Student Keystone Winners. The registration cost for any guests (advisers\, school officials\, family\, friends\, etc.) is $37 per person. PRE-REGISTRATION is required for ALL attendees. Pre-registration will ensure that the student winners will have their awards available at the event\, and their names called during the presentation. \n*WITF is kindly offering LIMITED tours (first-come\, first-served) of their facility to students at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.  If interested\, you should plan to arrive by 11 a.m.  Be sure to designate your interest in this unique opportunity on the registration form! \nREGISTRANTS:  A confirmation email will be sent to you on Monday\, March 31 with final details about the event. \nSCHEDULE: \n\n10:30-10:45 a.m. – plan to arrive at WITF’s Public Media Center\n11 & 11:30 a.m. – Tours of WITF – must have pre-registered (tour time will be included in your confirmation email)\n11 through noon – Ask Me Anything sessions – three separate rooms with different journalists\nNoon – 12:30 p.m. – networking lunch\n12:45 p.m. – be seated for the presentation of awards which will begin at 12:45 p.m. and is expected to end by approximately 1:45 p.m.\n\nThe PNA Foundation will supply plaques to each first-place winner and certificates to each second place and honorable mention winner in attendance at the Student Keystone Media Awards Luncheon. DESCRIPTION:Risk Assessment Process and Background\, Information & Risk Communications\nThis session is brought to you by the Mid Atlantic Biosolids Association. \nA panel of experts discusses the EPA’s draft risk assessment of PFOA/PFOS in Biosolids; from the risk assessment process\, the publication of the draft risk assessment for PFAS in biosolids\, and how to communicate and comment on the results. \nJoin us Tuesday\, April 15\, at 12 noon via Zoom.  \nA confirmation will be sent to all registrants a day or two prior to the event. \nPRESENTERS: \nNickolas Hines (Material Matters\, Inc./Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association) – Nick Hines is an Environmental Scientist with Material Matters and Vice Chair of ABBA. Nick specializes in federal and state biosolids beneficial use regulations\, completing biosolids master planning projects for utilities across the United States. \nRosa Gwinn (AECOM/Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association) – Dr. Rosa Gwinn founded and leads AECOM’s PFAS Initiative focusing on solving the range of PFAS concerns for our industrial\, municipal\, and federal clients. Building on over 20 years of PFAS projects\, she has drawn our engineers and scientists into a collaborative Technical Practice Group to develop PFAS solutions for drinking water and wastewater\, and environmental media. She is an active participant in internal and external research into treatment technologies ranging from novel sorbents to separation to destruction\, and both in situ and ex situ applications. Within the broader PFAS community\, Dr. Gwinn is viewed as an authority on expediting reliable solutions using currently technology with an eye to future-proofing for technology innovations and regulatory shifts. Dr. Gwinn received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and masters and doctorate from Brown University. \nRahkia Nance (National Association for Clean Water Agencies) – Rahkia Nance is an award-winning communications professional with more than 20 years of experience. She has served in a variety of communication leadership roles and is currently NACWA”s Director of Communications. Prior to joining NACWA\, Ms. Nance led communications for HDR’s Mid-Atlantic water and wastewater projects. She previously served as senior communications manager at the Water Environment Federation (WEF)\, where she managed the organization’s social media accounts in addition to handling media relations duties. She has also served as internal communications manager at DC Water\, and was formerly a communications consultant assigned to the Water Works Board of the City of Birmingham (Ala.). A former newspaper reporter\, Ms. Nance worked at daily newspapers in suburban Washington\, upstate New York and Birmingham\, Ala. Her work has appeared in outlets including The Washington Post\, USA Today and the Associated Press. Ms. Nance has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University\, a master’s degree in strategic communication from American University\, and a professional certificate in strategic management from Georgetown University. \nEmily Remmel (National Association for Clean Water Agencies) – Emily Remmel is the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs at the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). She works on biosolids\, water quality\, stormwater\, reuse and a variety of other regulatory topics. Emily has Bachelor and Master Degrees in Zoology and a Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School. \nMegan Ross (Kiewit/Southeast Biosolids Association) – Megan Ross is the Business Development Manager for Kiewit Water Facilities\, and brings a wealth of expertise as a professional engineer and Envision Sustainability Professional. With a strong background in process engineering and public utilities management\, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. Previously\, Megan served as the Utilities Director for Pinellas County and was an active board member of the Florida Water Environment Association Utility Council\, where she championed clean water legislation. Currently\, she is a board member of the newly formed Southeast Biosolids Association\, advocating for the responsible and sustainable management of biosolids.
