Legislative Update: May 16, 2019

The House was in session this week and the entire legislature will return June 3.

Electronic Filing of Campaign Finance Reports

The Senate passed Senate Bill 178, sponsored by Senator Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) last week, unanimously. The bill requires all candidates for office and political action committees in Pennsylvania to utilize the Department of State’s online filing system to electronically file campaign finance reports.

The House passed House Bill 633, sponsored by Representative Mark Keller (R-Perry) unanimously this week. The bill requires all candidates and political committees that file campaign finance reports with the Secretary of the Commonwealth to file the reports electronically.

Right to Know Law Commercial Requests

The House State Government Committee passed House Bill 283, sponsored by Representative Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh), which permits local and state agencies to charge additional search, review and duplication fees when responding to public record requests made for a commercial purpose. The bill was amended last week to exclude media as commercial requestors. Read the article in Meadville Tribune.
