The next managing editor of the Gettysburg Times will oversee all editorial functions in print and online. Our ideal candidate will arrive in the most famous small town in America understanding the importance of relationships in the community and will be accessible to the public. We offer the rare opportunity to work for a privately owned, award-winning publication that still puts community journalism first.

Gettysburg’s Managing Editor oversees our staff of inspired reporters, helps to develop the daily news budget and plans long-term projects. Responsibilities include editing copy and working with our team to break news and promote our content. Applicants should be proficient in newsroom management, writing, basic photography and social media engagement.

Other requirements include, but are not limited to the following: assisting the night editor with production of the daily newspaper, planning and assigning enterprise stories, insuring that all local news beats are covered and that staff writers are meeting our productivity standards in terms of generating local content. Our Managing Editor leads by example, covering his or her own local news beat, and also assigns stories for and edits our bi-monthly lifestyle magazine.

Traditional news and editing experience is preferred, but those with excellent writing and related media skills are welcome to apply. This full-time position includes a competitive salary along with a strong benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation.
