Promotional Spotlight: Altoona Mirror’s Season of Sharing

The Altoona Mirror Season of Sharing is a holiday fundraiser that aims to combine the power of the local newspaper, the expertise of the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation and the generosity of its central Pennsylvania readers. In its first 11 years, the Season of Sharing has raised more than $205,000 for several local charities.

The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services. The group provides on-site support for first responders at fires, standoffs and other emergency situations. They feed and fuel all firemen, police and EMTs and often care for victims, providing them with clothing, shelter and monetary resources.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Mirror’s news staff will profile the important work being done by Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services, and a preprinted envelope will be included in the issue to make it easier for readers to contribute. The Mirror has also partnered with several community arts groups to raise their profile and help the Season of Sharing at the same time. A portion of the proceeds from several events during the past year will be donated to the Season of Sharing.
