PSNE-APME Merger Announcement

Two state journalism boards merge to become Pennsylvania News Leaders Association

 

HARRISBURG, Pa., January 19, 2023 – The Pennsylvania Society of News Editors and the Associated Press Media Editors have formally merged into a new committee of senior media representatives under the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA).

The 16-member board includes journalism executives from print, digital and broadcasting companies across Pennsylvania united to advocate for public transparency and fairness, provide training and collaborate on projects.

The board elected Marta Gouger, editor of the Lehighton Times News, chairwoman. Other officers include Larry Holeva, executive editor of Times-Shamrock Communications, first vice chair; and Marea Mannion, assistant teaching professor at the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State, second vice chair.

Other new board members include: Ashley Fontones, Pocono Record; Jeff Gerritt, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; Tim Lambert, WITF, Harrisburg; Cindi Lash, WESA, Pittsburgh; Mark Lawrence, WKOK, Sunbury; Dennis Lyons, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.; Matt Martin, Erie Times-News; Cassie Miller, Pennsylvania Capital-Star; Tom Murse, LNP | LancasterOnline; Burke Noel, PennLive/The Patriot-News, Harrisburg; Patrick O’Shea, Beaver County Times and Ellwood City Ledger; Christina Paciolla, The Associated Press; and James Williams, Uptown Standard, Philadelphia.

An advisory board of past presidents of the two former organizations and other retired media leaders includes: Liz Allen, Cate Barron, Tom Barstow, Becky Bennett, Scott Blanchard, Sandra Clark, Michael Days, Jim Deegan, David Erdman, Nick Falsone, Wade Fowler, Ced Kurtz, Garry Lenton, Susan Martin, James McClure, Chip Minemyer, Terry Rang, James Sacchetti, F. Hope Stephan, Ted Sickler, Kim Strong and David Troisi.

Lifetime members who also serve as advisers are John V. R. Bull, Harry J. Deitz Jr., Woodene B. Merriman and Ernest J. Schreiber.
