Pennsylvania News Leaders Association (PNLA)

Since 1949, the Pennsylvania Society of News Editors (PSNE) offers the opportunity to network with editors statewide and find real solutions to the challenges you face. In your role as an editor, you are under the constant demands of fast-paced deadlines, newsroom management issues, and ever-changing industry developments. PSNE offers editors the opportunities to meet and network with other professionals to improve our craft and celebrate the best in news coverage from across the state.

In 2021, the Pennsylvania Society of News Editors (PSNE) and the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors (PAPME) groups merged to join forces as the Pennsylvania News Leaders Association (PNLA).

PSNE President's Awards

In 2012, for the first time ever, the PSNE Board of Directors decided to present two special awards in recognition of exceptional reporting that has brought distinction to Pennsylvania journalism, as demonstrated by receipt of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize. Named the PSNE President’s Awards, these awards were presented to:

Sara Ganim and members of The Patriot-News Staff (Harrisburg) for their Pulitzer Prize for local reporting, which the Pulitzer Board described as “courageously revealing and adeptly covering the explosive Penn State sex scandal involving former football coach Jerry Sandusky”; and

The Staff of the Philadelphia Inquirer for their Pulitzer Prize for public service for its exploration of pervasive violence in the city’s schools, using powerful print narratives and videos to illuminate crimes committed by children against children and to stir reforms to improve safety for teachers and students.

*NOTE: These awards will not be presented each year, and will only be awarded when deemed appropriate by the current PSNE Board of Directors.
