Reporter – Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette community newspaper is looking for a self-motivated writer eager to learn more about the region and its people; someone ready to dig up stories and capture history in photographs.

The right person will:

  • Be a top-notch communicator with a love for words, grammar, usage and spelling, who is determined to do away with jargon and share the news in layman’s terms;
  • Have the news sense to pinpoint top-priority content and the drive to take on larger enterprise packages;
  • Be dedicated to sharing high-quality, honest content with a readership that is an amalgam of political and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Be personable and understand that our sources and readers are human, too.
  • Keep the community on the up-and-up with local politics, area businesses, entertainment and recreation, and more. Help broaden the Sun-Gazetteā€™s coverage by pitching content ideas and storyboarding directly with the editors.

Knowledge of Associated Press Style and familiarity with Adobe programs are a big plus. Being comfortable with navigating the web (Google Drive and associated tools, Outlook email and associated tools) and using computers in general (PC or Mac) is necessary. A familiarity with social media is desired.

The newsroom is like a spacious second home for the Sun-Gazette editorial and sports staff. Flexibility, an easy-going atmosphere and coworkers who help one another while also pushing each other to do great things are just some of the upsides to joining the team.
