The Bedford Gazette is proving that local engagement and creative promotions can go hand in hand. With a growing lineup of popular online contests, the publication has seen tremendous success connecting readers and advertisers in fresh, interactive ways.

“Everyone loves a chance to win something,” said Sherri Growden, associate publisher of the Bedford Gazette. “We are literally able to create a contest or sweepstakes for ANY business.”
Partnering with Second Street has been a rewarding experience, helping The Gazette bring new energy to community engagement. Recent promotions have included a Penn State White Out Contest, where participants answered football-related questions like “Will there be a defensive touchdown?” for a chance to win $25 gift certificates from local advertisers. Weekly football contests also keep readers coming back. In October, November and December, a small deli and grocery store’s $500 gift card giveaway drew more than 6,000 entries.

A major advantage for advertisers is that The Gazette provides entrant email addresses at the end of each contest, creating meaningful marketing opportunities that extend far beyond the initial campaign.
Other successful contests include vacation giveaways presented by the Federated Library System of Bedford County, offering daily chances to win through October 31, and September’s whimsical Forest of the Fae contest, where the winner received a ticket to the Blue Fairy Gala.
