NBC’s new hit comedy series “The Paper” is not set in Pennsylvania, but rather about 180 miles west of the state line in Toledo, Ohio. It’s filmed even further away from the Keystone State in a small California town called Los Angeles (pronounced: loss AN-juh-less). Don’t worry, I had never heard of it either.
But when it comes to recognizing and appreciating the importance of local journalism in this country, proximity is not a factor. There is a fraternity among journalists which apparently extends even to those who play them on television.
Series co-creator and executive producer Greg Daniels enlisted two series regulars, Alex Edelman, who plays Adam, and Eric Rahill, who plays Travis, to create a video message congratulating PNA on its 100th Anniversary.
During the video, Edelman refers to “The Paper” as a “love letter to local journalism,” and adds, “since you guys do local journalism, I guess you could say we’re in love with you.”
The message concludes with Edelman wishing PNA a happy birthday and Rahill imploring PNA to “keep it going, guys!”
