The 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award is posthumously honoring G. Ogden Nutting.

G. Ogden Nutting has performed an outstanding service and accomplishment spanning his career in journalism. Nutting, who died in 2023, served nearly three decades as president and publisher of The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register in West Virginia. Nutting was a prominent business and community leader in Wheeling, receiving numerous awards for his service.

In 2025, Nutting was recognized by Gov. Bob Wise with the “Distinguished West Virginian” award. His family continues his printing legacy with Ogden Newspapers, owner of several Pa. dailies and numerous publications across the country.


Purpose of the Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has performed an outstanding service and accomplishment spanning a career in journalism. The nominee must (1) be a present or former publisher or senior manager of a Pennsylvania newspaper and (2) have spent a significant part of his or her career working in Pennsylvania. Nominations may only be made by current or former owners or employees of Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association members. The goal is to recognize a track record of excellence and service to newspapers and journalism.

Award Criteria

Eligibility: The nominee must (1) be a present or former publisher or senior manager of a Pennsylvania news media organization and (2) have spent a significant part of his or her career working in Pennsylvania. Nominations may only be made by current or former owners or employees of Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association members.

The goal of this award is to recognize a track record of excellence and service to news media and journalism. Some factors that may be considered include:

  • Use of his/her newspaper connections to be active in a variety of ways in his/her community or in the state or nation. This may or may not include being active in press association affairs.
  • The skillful practice of his/her craft in the production of a quality newspaper product.
  • Outstanding service and accomplishments for his/her news media organization.
  • Exceptional service to the news media business, accomplished through an association or as an individual.
  • Exemplary service to the community, city, state, or nation to reflect credit upon the news media industry.

A letter of nomination explaining the reasons the nominee should receive the award, along with optional supporting documentation, must have been submitted by Friday, Aug. 15 via email to teresas@pa-news.org or mailed to:

PRESENTATION: The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be honored at PNA’s 100th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, at the Hershey Country Club, and inducted into the PNA Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025. Details about the event available in September.
