Keystone News Summit
The Keystone News Summit, scheduled for May 15-16, 2025, at the Hilton Harrisburg is focused on the future of local journalism. This two-day event will bring together media professionals, nonprofit leaders, journalism educators and policymakers to address the urgent challenges facing local news and explore innovative solutions for sustainability.
Duquesne University, Temple University, Penn State, Lehigh University and Point Park University organized the inaugural event, which will delve into four areas critical to the future of journalism: philanthropy in the newsroom, diversified business models, university partnerships and government and legislative initiatives.
Attendees will participate in keynote sessions, panel discussions, workshops and networking events designed to foster collaboration and inspire action.
The summit will feature addresses by:
- Zach Metzger, leader of the State of Local News Project at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University,
- Pamela J. Browning, president and publisher of The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C, the South’s oldest daily newspaper,
- Steve Waldman, president of Rebuild Local News, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that advances public policies to counter the collapse of local news and revitalize community journalism
- and Steve Stadelman, Illinois State Senator 34th District and author of the Illinois Strengthening Community Media bill.
