PNA Marks Start of Centennial Year
PNA celebrated a century of service to the news media industry in Pennsylvania during a festive anniversary gala at the Hershey Country Club on Nov. 14, 2024. The evening included the presentation of the Benjamin Franklin Award for Excellence, PNA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the induction of 100 exemplary individuals into the PNA Hall of Fame, a keynote address from News/Media Alliance President and CEO Danielle Coffey, the debut of PNA’s new “Pennsylvanians are connected” video, a congratulatory video message from Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, and a check presentation to the three grant recipients of the inaugural Pa. Lab for Journalism Funding, a project formed in conjunction with Local Media Association.
PNA 100th Anniversary Kickoff Events
The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association kicked off our 100th Anniversary with three regional receptions in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Each two-hour event included remarks from publishers, government officials and PNA executives along with a celebratory reception.
The Pittsburgh event was held at the National Aviary in conjunction with Newsapalooza sponsored by the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University. The Philadelphia event took place at McNally’s Tavern in Chestnut Hill, and the Harrisburg event was held at the Capitol. Thank you to all who attended. Check out our recap videos.

Pennsylvanians are Connected
In celebration of PNA’s 100th anniversary, we produced a video to showcase local journalism and its vital role in keeping Pennsylvania communities connected and our shared democracy strong. You are welcome to download the video and share it with your readers and community members.
A Message from Minnesota U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar
Minnesota U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is a dedicated advocate for press freedom and staunch defender of local journalism. She cosponsored the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, empowering news organizations and ensuring local newsrooms have the resources to keep our communities informed. As the daughter of a long-time newspaperman, this is a subject near and dear to the senator’s heart. Though she could not attend the PNA Gala in person, the senator did not want to miss the opportunity to extend her congratulations to PNA and its members on 100 years of serving our communities.
