Trib Total Media, a member of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, is one of the state’s most decorated and dynamic news organizations, recognized nationally and regionally for its journalism across platforms.

With a forward-thinking approach to digital storytelling and a legacy grounded in community service, the Tribune-Review newsroom continues to lead with impact, innovation and integrity.

Award winning journalism that serves the community

Named Best Newspaper in Pennsylvania by the Society of Professional Journalist Keystone Chapter five times in six years, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, Trib Total Media has been recognized consistently for overall newsroom excellence. Digitally, TribLIVE continues to lead among regional outlets.

2024

TribLIVE was recognized with 37 awards as well as the Sweepstakes and Outstanding News Operation first place award at the Keystone Media Awards hosted by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.

During the same year, the newsroom also earned second place in the EPPY Awards for Best Daily Newspaper Website, a testament to its modern design, strong digital reporting and user-focused experience.

In 2023, the newsroom was included in Forbes’ list of America’s Best Small Employers. Additionally, the Tribune-Review was awarded 30 Keystone Media Awards by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.

The video “Last Chance Trolley: Transforming Western Pennsylvanians Into Pittsburghers” took the Emmy in the Historical/Cultural long-form content category. “Called to Hallowed Ground” won the Emmy in the Human Interest long-form content category. In the 15-minute documentary, Western Pennsylvania residents describe their experiences as the 9/11 attacks unfolded in the United States.

Additionally, the Tribune-Review took home 28 awards at the Keystone Media Awards hosted by PNA in 2022, including the prestigious G. Richard Dew Award for its investigation on how sex offenders go undetected in Pennsylvania’s long-term care facilities.

“We are extremely grateful for this recognition,” said Luis Fabregas, executive editor of Trib Total Media. “Day in and day out, our journalists strive to produce good work on behalf of the community and our readers.”

2021

In 2021, Trib Total Media received one of journalism’s highest honors — the Edward R. Murrow Award — for “Sheltering with Joyce”, a heartfelt narrative chronicling a reporter’s time quarantined with her 93-year-old mother during the early days of the pandemic. The piece resonated nationally for its quiet vulnerability and emotional clarity.

Among others who received awards were The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker.
