Wayne Lowman was named publisher of the Gettysburg Times in August, officially taking the reins in September. Lowman spent the previous seven years as the general manager for the Daily Collegian, the print and digital student-run newspaper at Penn State University – Main Campus.
Lowman has previous experience covering Adams County. He was the editor at the Hanover Evening Sun, covering Gettysburg many years before moving to Indiana and then New York to work as the publisher for regional newspaper groups.
While considering retirement, a former colleague from the Evening Sun suggested Lowman contact George “Scoop” Sample III, owner and chairman of the Sample News Group. Sample was searching for a new publisher at the Gettysburg Times to oversee the publication and commercial printing. The Times is one of four major commercial printing hubs in Sample News Group’s Pennsylvania operations.

“Commercial Printing is a growing and important revenue stream for Sample News Group,” Lowman said. “With four primary hubs at ATJ in Huntingdon and including print sites in Gettysburg, Towanda and Indiana, Sample is well positioned to provide quality printing to all four corners of the state and our PA neighbors.”
Lowman said anyone who wants to explore Sample’s printing services should contact him in Gettysburg.
Lowman also has plans for editorial content celebrating America 250, Pennsylvania 250 and Adams County 250. Products include a monthly special section highlighting famous people and events from Adams County and a weekly “Founders and Guardians.”
“I’m thrilled to be in Gettysburg,” Lowman said. “Sample is committed to servicing our communities with local news and advertising services. We generate, on average, more than 900,000 page views per month and engage nearly 250,000 unique users on gettysburgtimes.com.
“Clearly, that audience illustrates the breadth of interest in Gettysburg as a significant historical destination and the Gettysburg Times as the purveyor of news and messaging for local businesses.”
Lowman and his wife, Debra, live in Union Bridge, Md.
