Tammy Schuey was selected for her meaningful impact in Pennsylvania’s news media landscape while exhibiting strong promise as a future leader in the industry. Schuey is the publisher of the Butler Eagle.
“I am very honored and surprised to be recognized as the inaugural Emerging Leader of the Year. 2024 was full of many challenges as well as opportunities which I was happy to be a part of in my new role as publisher of the Eagle,” she said. “I truly enjoy working with all our departments and will continue to build on the passion and dedication of our staff. I look forward to supporting our industry and serving our community in the years to come.”
This award honors a rising professional who demonstrates initiative, creativity and a deep commitment to the mission of journalism – showcasing leadership well beyond their years of experience. Whether working in editorial, advertising, audience development, digital innovation or operations, the recipient brings fresh energy, bold ideas and a clear sense of purpose to their work.
Nominees should demonstrate:
- Meaningful contributions: Notable career achievements that have made a clear impact on newsroom operations, business strategy, digital innovation, audience growth or community engagement
- Leadership potential: Initiative and drive that inspires colleagues, strengthens teams and advances the organization’s mission – even without a formal leadership title
- Forward-thinking mindset: A willingness to embrace innovation, new tools or storytelling methods that address evolving audience needs and support the sustainability of journalism
- Teamwork and mentorship: A collaborative spirit that fosters learning, inclusion and support among peers and across teams
- Commitment to journalism’s core value: A demonstrated dedication to truth, transparency, accuracy and the essential role of a free press in a democratic society
This award celebrates professionals who are not only shaping the present – but are poised to lead the future of journalism.
Award Criteria
Nominees must be employed by a Pennsylvania-based news media organization. This award is intended for individuals who have entered the news media industry in the past three years. Individuals in editorial, advertising, technology, audience development, business or leadership roles are eligible.
Nomination Guidelines
Nominations must be submitted in writing and include a clear explanation of the nominee’s contributions, impact and leadership potential. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and should be emailed to teresas@pa-news.org or mailed to:

The recipient of the 2025 News Media Industry Emerging Leader of the Year Award will be honored during PNA’s Annual Dinner in Harrisburg on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, and inducted into the PNA Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026. Details about the event available in the summer.
