Cate Barron

Cate Barron championed diversity, equity and inclusion throughout her 44-year career in journalism. As president of PA Media Group, she built a robustly diverse company and leadership team. In her recent retirement, she’s been invited to sponsor “Advancing Women,” a new business resource group for Advance Local employees offering mentoring, workplace advice and other services.

The Lewistown native began her career as news director of WMRF Radio. After several years with The Lewistown Sentinel, Cate joined The Patriot-News, of Harrisburg. She held a variety of newsroom positions during her long tenure, leading to appointment as president in 2019. During her editorial years, she was president of the state APME and ASNE chapters, spent two terms on the national APME board and was an adjunct journalism instructor.

Cate served as a senior editor on many major stories, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Penn State/Sandusky scandal. During her tenure, PennLive/The Patriot-News repeatedly won Pennsylvania NewsMedia of the Year and Keystone Sweepstakes honors.
